Tom’s Guide will provide more info for the game as Blizzard makes it available. Speaking of launch, Diablo IV will debut in 2023 – and if the Xbox Showcase is to be believed, it will debut within the first half of the year. This is another feature that Blizzard devs first introduced last year, but it’s good to hear that we should be able to try it out at launch.

This feature is also self-explanatory, although Xbox players will be glad to know that they won’t have to travel the dangerous realms of Sanctuary alone. At that point, you’ll become what one dev described as a “loot piñata,” which should turn the tables pretty quickly.įinally, at least on Xbox, you’ll be able to enjoy couch co-op with a friend or family member, just like in Diablo III.

PvP, or player-versus-player combat, is open only in certain areas, and if you do well enough, you’ll eventually get a literal target painted above your head. Some of them will also spawn enormous “World Bosses,” which might require a whole party of players working in tandem to take out. Diablo IV is that kind of game, and it plays out in this huge open world, this huge canvas that we’re working right now to fill with awesome adventures for players to have. After confirming the sequel at Blizzcon 2019, game director Luis Barriga said Diablo 4 wouldn't be released soon. Clearly, that didnt happen, though it is coming. Blizzard has not announced a Diablo 4 release date yet. They’re not full-fledged quests, but they might require you to clear out a group of enemies or help a non-player character. Actugamings leak from early 2020, which did get the developer and projects existence right, claimed that it would come out later that same year. (Like Diablo Immortal, Diablo IV isn’t exactly an MMO – but it’s not not an MMO, either.) World events are small, random stories that will sometimes crop up as you explore. Diablo IV takes place many years after the events of Diablo III, after millions have been slaughtered by the actions of the High Heavens and Burning Hells al. World events and PvP will probably be familiar to anyone who’s played through a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game before. In either case, it seems like Strongholds represent a way for players to have a tangible effect on the open world. When you conquer them, some Strongholds become towns or fortresses others may simply open the way to even deadlier dungeons. Diablo himself is bright red, for crying out loud. I have no doubt that Diablo IV will try to be super-dark, no doubt reacting to the (mistaken) perception that Diablo III was bright, but thats such a weird turn for Diablo. Some are “Strongholds,” which you can clear out and claim for yourself. I swear, the entire Diablo brand has been Flanderised so badly. Not every hostile area in Diablo IV will remain hostile forever. Barbarian was a bit faster (during frenzy bonus, it seems) but its definitely not up to the speeds of D3. Watched some Druid and Barb gameplay from some Diablo streamers/YouTubers. Eight weeks after release, the game surpassed $100 million in lifetime revenue, making it one of the fastest mobile titles to achieve that feat.Strongholds seem like the most interesting of the new systems. Considering how far out this game is from launch and how unfinished this version looks, my indifference is rising.

But for all the vocal complaining around Immortal’s monetization, it doesn’t seem to have affected Blizzard’s bottom line. Blizzard later said it would address the issue, but not before JT’s story added to the negative discourse around the game. At the start of August, YouTuber Jtisallbusiness posted a video complaining that he couldn’t participate in the game’s endgame PVP after spending $100,000 to max out his character. Today’s blog post follows weeks of bad press around Diablo Immortal’s aggressive monetization. The Season Journey is included with the base game, and filling out its pages will also earn you progress toward the current season pass. Like its Diablo III counterpart, the Season Journey will allow you to earn items and cosmetics by completing chapter tasks. The first big thing coming to Diablo IV isn’t even a new concept.

Separate from the battle pass system is a progression mechanic called the Season Journey (pictured above). A new Quarterly Update blog post out today offers a look at how being a live service game will work in the upcoming Diablo IV. It would feel kind of gross to support a game that is wringing money out of players with poor impulse control.
